First Ice Cream Sundae Social a Big Success!

The Waluga Neighborhood Association’s First Ice Cream Sundae Social was a big success. Dozens of neighbors were served ice cream by some of Lake Oswego City Hall’s finest, including Mayor Kent Studebaker, Fire Chief Larry Goff, Police Chief Don Johnson, Planning Commisioner Bill Ward, and City Council Member, Skip O’Neill. Even Chase the K9 stopped by for a lick!

Most of the neighbors won great raffle prizes donated by area businesses. The weather even cooperated, as it wasn’t too hot to enjoy an ice cream sundae.

Re-development of the Providence Mercantile Property

CenterCal with their development team including Trammell Crow and Highstreet Residential is redeveloping this site to include 209 high end apartments, restaurants and a pharmacy.

CenterCal has built other large retail facilities in our area like Bridgeport Village, Nyberg Crossing, Nyberg Rivers and Cascade Station. Each of these facilities relies on large anchor stores, however because of the constrained size of this property, no anchor store is proposed. The City of Lake Oswego strongly encouraged CenterCal to add apartment units to their proposal.

Lake Grove Village & Boones Ferry Project

The Waluga Neighborhood Association is actively involved in the planning of the Lake Grove Village Center (LGVC) and the Boones Ferry Road Improvement Project. Two Three of our Board Members past and present, Jeff Novak, Cheryl Uchida and Bruce Goldson served on the project advisory  committees.

WNA is concerned about the impact of these projects on our neighborhood, especially regarding traffic and parking. We will continue to provide input and we welcome hearing our neighbors’ concerns.

School Bus Facility

The School Bus Facility for Lake Oswego School District has been operating from the Lake Grove Elementary School property for decades.  All 57 buses empty out onto Beasley Way and eventually onto Quarry Road, Douglas Way, Oakridge Road and Galewood Street and back again at least four times a day to serve the school children at 7 elementary, 2 middle and 2 high schools in Lake Oswego. The School District is making recent efforts to relocate the bus service to a new property they now own because they have outgrown their present location.
